About UsGamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. was founded February, 1943, by the late Elizabeth Garner, teacher and the late Violet T. Lewis, owner of Lewis Business College, Detroit, Michigan. The founders, along with the other eleven members are known as the Sorority's 13 Original Pearls. Each woman, mostly educators, pledged to organize a chapter in her home city.
Today, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. is a group of business women, professionals, entrepreneurs and students, organized to foster a sisterhood supporting women in career and vocational endeavors, provide support to the elderly and contribute to the improvement of youth, academically and financially. Our chapters are comprised of diverse professionals, business owners, federal and municipal employees. Chapters award annual scholarships, perform significant hours of community service, support our National Affiliate organizations and facilitate Youth Auxiliaries. We are organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, including the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. |
